ok, the things i made till now
i have a kernel with ppp compiled and all subthings from ppp in kernel as modules
a modem is connected to my box
i emerged pppd and pppconfig

i did pppconfig, resulting in 2 files being created
i have found a post with the scripts of pon and poff, that i'm trying out after reboot

can somebody please post a small howto set up internetconnection
i get crazy of rebooting, to start an other OS (the name i don't want to tell you) to get to this forum

i think it should not be hard cause all these nice howtos seem so short, but it seems to me like a jungle without a clear path to the end. non uses things i have or works.

i never had the look to make a connection, either GENTOO or RH

please make a post (it seems i'm the only, who is so stupid that he can not setup a modem connection)

ok my fault, should use the right command->
pppconfig made me 2 files
Code:
pppd call *provider*

my modem begins to dial, a lot of lamps begin to light around and finally the same four lights are shinning as when using it under windows

the lights stay, but what now
when starting opera it tells me that he could not find remote (? cant remember), ftp also doesn't work.

do i have to do something additional? what?

run the command:

#ifconfig

and see if the ppp0 interface is there, then run

#route -n

to see if it is the default gw.

If you had a default gw before dialup then you need to remove it to allow ppp0 to become the default gw
