Hello! Recently, I started being unable to watch videos on Hulu in Firefox, although I have Flash installed. I installed the 32-bit firefox-bin, in which Hulu works correctly. When trying to watch any video in 64-bit mozilla-firefox, the Hulu video player loads, but then reports:

Quote:
Sorry, we are unable to stream this video. Please check your internet connection and try again.

Is anyone else experiencing this, and does anyone have a solution? Package versions are:

Code:
[I] www-plugins/adobe-flash
     Installed versions:  10.0.45.2!m!s(05:40:12 PM 02/12/2010)(32bit 64bit multilib)

Code:
[I] www-client/firefox-bin
     Installed versions:  3.6-r1!m!s(07:04:33 AM 02/16/2010)(linguas_en linguas_en_US startup-notification -restrict-javascript)

Code:
[I] www-client/mozilla-firefox
     Installed versions:  3.6-r2(06:22:01 AM 02/26/2010)(alsa dbus libnotify linguas_en linguas_en_US startup-notification -bindist -custom-optimization -elibc_FreeBSD -gnome -java -wifi)

Thanks!

My understanding is that flash player has problems with 64 bits and that one should stick with 32 bit flash player.

It's nuts, I know.

Well, Flash works for everything else I've tried, hence my confusion. Also, it worked until about a week ago! I just wanted to see if I could avoid using 32-bit Firefox, since the fonts look like excrement.

I remember now something about Hulu and Firefox/flash. I think there's another thread here somewhere about this. I think Hulu might be wonky about it.

Ah, I've found that thread now, thanks! (Search FAIL: "hulu 64-bit" is apparently too specific, while "hulu" does just fine.)

Yeah, when I want to find something on these forums, I use Google with the site: argument.

Still a problem with 64bit.

The Hulu error message now blames Adobe for 64bit Linux problems.
Running hulu via /usr/bin/firefox (with www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.8, www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.45.2) now shows the message:
Quote:
We're sorry but we're unable to stream videos to your system.
This may be due to an Adobe software limitation
on 64-bit Linux systems.

Hulu kicks the binary ball into Adobe's side of the court.

However, I was able to watch a show last night via /usr/bin/firefox-bin (www-client/firefox-bin-3.5.8).
I built flash with both 32 and 64 bit.
eix -I flash
Code:
[I] www-plugins/adobe-flash
     Available versions:  ~9.0.262.0!m!s 10.0.45.2!m!s {32bit 64bit multilib}
     Installed versions:  10.0.45.2!m!s(19:38:16 03/11/10)(32bit 64bit multilib)
     Homepage:            http://www.adobe.com/
     Description:         Adobe Flash Player

But flash still lacks gpu direct rendering, even though my driver and card support it,
so Adobe has Linux issues on multiple fronts.
How about some love Adobe?

I'm getting the same message from hulu.com using both FF and Chromium. What is really strange about that is: huludesktop, which also uses the 64 bit adobe flash player (my understanding), works just fine. I don't get it.

Sounds like Hulu and Adobe simply employ morons!

Huludesktop segfaults for me on start, so that isn't an option.

I think the only option is to become constructively active with their bug system ( https://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/ ), to let them know people are interested.

For Hulu on 64bit linux, there are a lot, but this is one:
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4067

For hardware acceleration, there are a few bugs for the 10.1 release:
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-3363
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-3146

Well, Adobe has responded to bug https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4067

Quote:
Hulu has gone back to the original error message ("Sorry, we are unable to stream this video. Please check your internet connection and try again."), not trying to blame Adobe anymore.

The Adobe solution was to get Hulu to change the message.

They closed the bug and didn't fix anything.

Adobe has earned their loss, and no love here.

I certainly hope HTML5 offers a full flash replacement, platform agnostic, cross-browser supported, standards compliant, and is adopted by anyone that uses flash.

man i'm having this same problem now, neither huludesktop or hulu in browser will play video, but the ads and intros play just fine. And it all was working a week or 2 ago just fine. I don't remember installing or changing anything recently. No clue how to fix this.

Yeah, same here...Isn't that funny...you get to watch the ads, but you can't see the videos. Hulu is doing this (they are trying to transition to a paid model).

Hulu sux!
