Ever since Xorg stopped recognizing 'Ctrl'+'Alt+'Backspace' to restart-X, I've found myself having to either open a shell and do it from a command prompt or leaving KDE and selecting 'Console Login' from the login manager and waiting for KDE to restart X.

Most other distros all seem to have an additional option at the KDM login menu, 'Restart X' (Examples include: Debian, Fedora, Suse, PCLOS, Mandriva, Kubuntu). But we only have 'Switch User', 'Remote Login', 'Console Login', and 'Shutdown".

What file(s) need to be edited in order to add this to my login menu? And how would I go about doing it?

TIA

Ciao

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but you can re-enable Ctrl+Alt+Backspace if you'd prefer. This post: http://www.lunix.com.au/blog/xorg_dontzap/ shows you use setxkbmap to do so:
Code:
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp

I searched in my /home and /root directories, but could not find an .xinitrc file. (And yes I did click show hidden files). I assume I don't have one because I boot directly into KDE and have always done so with my current setup.

However, I found a work around after doing a lot of Google searches. In the 'System Settings' configuration manager is an applet named 'Regional & Language'. Within that applet is a tool named 'Keyboard Layout' which allows you to choose a number of keyboard layouts for different languages and hardware. Clicking on the 'Advanced' tab reveals many keyboard shortcut options which can be added. One of them is labeled, 'Key sequence to kill X server' with a check-box below it named, 'Control + Alt + Backspace'. Checking this box ads 'setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp' to the 'Command' box at the bottom of the applet.

Doing this immediately activates the ability to 'Ctrl'+'Alt+'Backspace' to restart-X. This makes life much better now!

I still would like to know how to add 'Restart X' to the KDM login menu, but at least now I can restart-X easily!

So if anyone out there knows how to edit the login menu.... please chime in. In the mean time.....

Ciao
