Posted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:23 am Post subject: kde-sunset support (KDE-3.5.x) thread.<my issue resolved& |
|
|
Sometimes, one must take the proverbial bull by the horns. Since I feel there needs to be a kde-sunset support discussion thread, I throw this offering out to the ether hoping that there is an interest for it. Since I do note that there are changes in layman when syncing kde-sunset, I also have to assume that KDE-3.5.x is far from dead. Maybe it could go sticky with enough interest. |wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more|
Now, with that out of the way, I have an issue with kde-sunset and poppler-0.12.3-r3. When attempting to emerge, The source gets configured, then sandbox complains about an access violation, vis a vis: Code: | VERSION 1.0

I wonder if this is an amd64/x86 issue. It's building fine for me.
About the only noteworthy differences I see (other than the major difference of being x86 on my box) is I'm building with +qt4, and I'm using sys-devel/gcc-4.4.2.
My sandbox version seems to be the same as your sandbox version (sys-apps/sandbox-2.2) |

Considering it built fine on the x86 machines, yes, that is a fair assessment. The assessment doesn't fix the machine, but it does narrow the search field a bit...I hope.

I'm having the same compile error with poppler. I have two amd64 systems, one AMD the other Intel. Both are KDE 4.3.3, the Intel box has kde-sunset (for Quanta+) and is exhibiting this compile problem with poppler; the AMD without kde-sunset is not. |

I'd write a bug report, but it would get rejected out of hand as it seems that kde-sunset is the cause of my issues. So, I keep hoping that someone will happen along who might know better what's going on. Considering all the updates that come to the kde-sunset, I'm sure that someone is out there.
Amazingly, if I compile without the qt3 USE flag, it compiles as expected. I've done so until the true issue is found.

just tag the bug-report as [kde-sunset] (prefixing it)
I did the same with the kde / kde-testing overlay and it worked out nicely
aren't the people maintaining it from the kde herd anyway ? _________________ https://github.com/kernelOfTruth/ZFS-for-SystemRescueCD/tree/ZFS-for-SysRescCD-4.9.0

nope, it's not maintained by any of gentoo developers, only users, so all bugs get a "resolved, invalid" tag
the poppler ebuild is likely missing "inherit qt3" for the sandbox failure

ssuominen is correct about the app-text/poppler-0.12.3-r3.ebuild lacking 'qt3' in the inherit line:
Code: | inherit cmake-utils |
Running 'layman -i kde-sunset' gives the contact as the gentoo-desktop mailing list.
I wonder if it is acceptable to send bug reports there? |

Yep, gentoo-desktop mailing list is correct place
EDIT: Also you can try some of the maintainers directly: http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/kde-sunset.git;a=blob_plain;f=Documentation/commiters;hb=HEAD |

Thank you. I had the same problem as BitJam and no idea how to fix it.
But one trip to the good old forum and now I have the solution |

The topic read "kde-sunset support thread" so I hope noone minds I use it...
Since I updated world a few weeks ago and KDE 3.5 was re-merged with packages from kde-sunset, I've had some bugs and I wonder if it's just me.
When attempting to use my ipod(nano 1st gen) with Amarok I get a crash. Going under settings, devices then next to the ipod mass storage device changing the drop-down box to "Apple Ipod" and hitting apply causes an insta-crash, but unfortunately all I see printed is "Segmentation fault". I've never tried debugging before, do I need to emerge just KDE3 with USE=+debug or all of world?
Kmail also crashes, when trying to send email. I think that this issue is simpler though, it somehow seems to think there is a message in the outbox, when there isn't, and trying to delete or move that message causes an instant crash. I backed up my mail(not including outbox of course) and rm -r'ed the kmail maildir, but it still thinks there's a message there. Is there another directory somewhere I need to delete as well? |

Does anyone know why there is no ebuild of kbibtex in kde-sunset? _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

I think qt:3 is incompatible with media-libs/libpng-1.4.2.
I've upgraded one of my installations that still had KDE-3 to libpng14, and qt:3 is one of the few remaining packages I have that is failing regularly.
Code: | kernel/qpngio.cpp:165: error: ‘struct png_info_struct’ has no member named ‘trans_values’ |
I checked another box that has media-libs/libpng-1.2.40 installed, and /usr/include/png.h does have a ‘trans_values’ member in ‘struct png_info_struct’, while the png.h with libpng14 no longer appears to have this member. |

After using KDE exclusively for > 10 years, I've started using Enlightenment e16 (not e17 which reminds me of KDE-4) instead. It took some work to customize but I've found it to be a good KDE-3 work-alike. In fact, I find e16 to be an improvement in many ways. YMMVG. When I get a round-tuit, I will write a KDE-3 => e16 howto. |

I'd be interested in reading that.

I expect to be very busy until the end of this week so I wrote up something quick and dirty to get you started. There is probably enough information there to get you into a week's worth of trouble/fun.
KDE-3 ==> e16 HOWTO |

Interesting. I'll have to peruse it more a bit later.
