I have three DELL monitors connected to Sapphire RADEON 4850 X2 card.
Month ago it all works ok.
After update to xorg-server 1.7.6 xinerama became broken.
So I've masked some packages (because new xinerama work incorrectly with new xorg-servers):
$ cat /etc/portage/package.mask/xorg
>x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.5-r1
>=x11-libs/libXinerama-1.1
>=x11-proto/xineramaproto-1.2
>=media-libs/mesa-7.7.1
>=x11-libs/libXext-1.1.1
>=x11-libs/libXi-1.3
>=x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.1.0
>=x11-libs/libXtst-1.1.0
>=x11-proto/xextproto-7.1.1
>=x11-proto/fixesproto-4.1.1
>=x11-proto/recordproto-1.14
>=x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3
>=x11-proto/inputproto-2.0
Now (after system update and rollback to xorg-server-1.6.5) I have vertical stripes on the right monitor.
When I drag the window to the right monitor, window doubles in width, but it became divided on stripes with four pixels width.
Also some pixels wrap around to left monitor and overlap the image on left monitor as horizontal stripes at each four horisontal pixels.
I have the following software installed:
$ emerge -pv xorg-server
x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.5-r1 USE="debug nptl sdl xorg -dmx -hal -ipv6 -kdrive -minimal -tslib"
$ uname -r
2.6.33-gentoo-r1
$ zgrep "KMS" /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER=m
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS=y
$ grep "kernel" /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /boot/kernel root=/dev/ram0 nomodeset radeon.agpmode=-1 init=/linuxrc realroot=/dev/sda3
How to remove stripes? |

| I don't think anybody is inclined to support xorg-server 1.6.5 still. You have a much better chance of getting support if you use the latest stable. Xinerama should not be used. Use a minimal xorg.conf which contains only Device and Monitor sections as described in http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12 . |

ranrd doesn't support multiple GPU yet. This card have two GPU. It will not work without xinerama. |

| There have been some reports of success with recent X server and XRandR. You may want to try with xorg-server-1.7 or 1.8 and an xorg.conf which contains only two device and four monitor sections. |

That guy make his post September 17th, 2009. He uses Xinerama.
So it wasn't XRANDR, and it wasn't RECENT
I believe that his setup was working, because
my own setup was working (from 2009 till march-april 2010)
until last month update of /usr/portage with emerge --sync (new packages was unmasked in stable branch).

I've tried 1.7, and 1.8 of course, spent more then 48 hours of trying and reading and serching the internet. Please give an exact suggestions.

| ArsenShnurkov wrote: | | Please give an exact suggestions. | I am not claiming that my suggestions work, as I don't have a similar setup to test with. But this is where I would start:
The first step I would attempt is to remove all the old cruft. Including your entire xorg.conf and graphics related kernel parameters in grub. Then configure kernel as follows: | Code: | CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_VGA_ARB=y | Install the following packages: | Code: | =x11-drivers/radeon-ucode-20100408
=x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.13.0
=x11-base/xorg-server-1.8.0 | Verify that this setup starts without any xorg.conf at all. Then create the following minimal xorg.conf | Code: | Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
BusID "PCI:3:0:0"
Option "Monitor-DVI-0" "Monitor0"
Option "Monitor-DVI-1" "Monitor1"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card1"
BusID "PCI:4:0:0"
Option "Monitor-DVI-2" "Monitor2"
Option "Monitor-DVI-3" "Monitor3"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor1"
Option "RightOf" "Monitor0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor2"
Option "RightOf" "Monitor1"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor3"
Option "RightOf" "Monitor2"
EndSection | You may need to adjust the config to actual layout and output names. Also if your use kernel 2.6.33 with radeon drm built-in instead of module, you need to set CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE as explained here. |
