Hi,
Well a day that a new kde version gets into portage means a lot of compiling and it's a good opportunity to think if someone should move to a new compiler, which means some more compiling first.
My question is if it's worth it to move on using the 4.4.x series and 4.4.3 as of now or stay with the stable 4.3.4 (and maybe the 4.3.x series.)
OK, eventually we will move to the 4.4.x series but is it the right time now, or should I wait for gcc 4.4.4 ?
I do have a C2D but the question is in general. |

I've been running gcc 4.4.3 for about 6 weeks now. Rebuilt my entire system with it (emerge @world). I've had zero problems. I'm running an amd64 arch, so I can't comment on others. |

If you have java enabled as a USE flag for gcc, then my advice would be to stay with gcc-4.3. There has been bugs associated with java for the past 6 months or more. Essentially, I can't recompile this gcc-4.4.2 or gcc-4.4.3 because of those bugs.
For reference: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=281907
Other than this one bug, I haven't had any problems with running gcc-4.4.2 for roughly the past 8 months (can't compile gcc-4.4.3 because of above bug). This is for both x86 and amd64 stable systems (with a few testing packages). _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |
