I've just updated KDE to 4.4.
This is what I get when trying to launch kmail for 1st and 2nd time after login:
Code: |

$ kmail

If I open Desktop search in System Settings, I get the same error (The name org.kde.nepomuk.services.nepomukstorage was not provided by any .service files).
Another user with empty home directory has no problems. How can I fix this? |

No problems in 4.3.5. Just compiled 4.4.0 and now no kmail. I normally run xmonad. Tried starting up in kde and get an error message about resources not found in akonadi, and then kmail shuts down.

Had the same problem, wasn't able to start nepomuk, krunner (ALT+F2 or rightclick on the desk), dolphin, kmail and kontact. read over in the Arch Linux Forum about downgrading soprano from 2.4.0 to an older version. After restarting dbus/hal and logging into kde, nearly everything is working again, only Nepomuk Indexind is still disabled. Maybe we need to hardmask soprano 2.4.0, guess if others update world they'll get into trouble too...
cheers,

Downgraded soprano, got out of kde, restarted kde, now it seems to work. I think I will be looking for a couple of replacement programs for the kde applications. I only use kmail, k3b and amarok anyway. _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |

Nepomuk works with dev-libs/soprano-2.4.0 just fine after I re-enabled java & clucene use-flags (although java is all you need to enable, I think) |

doesn't work here:
Code: |
[ebuild R ] dev-libs/soprano-2.4.0 USE="dbus java raptor redland virtuoso -clucene* -debug -doc" 0 kB
"/usr/bin/krunner(28256)" Error in thread 140278601930624 : "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.kde.nepomuk.services.nepomukstorage was not provided by any .service files"
krunner(28256)/nepomuk (library) <unnamed>::GlobalModelContainer::init: Connecting to local socket "/home/drizzt/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/socket" |
try downgrading now
UPDATE:
downgrade doesn't help either since nepomuk requires soprano > 2.3.70
Any ideas ?
2. UPDATE
Ok got a running combination (at least for now) :
- removed ~/.kde4/share/config/nepomuk*
- removed ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk*
- emerged soprano as Code: | [ebuild R ] dev-libs/soprano-2.4.0 USE="clucene dbus java raptor virtuoso -debug -doc -redland" 0 kB |
Reboot.
After that procedure nepomuk/akonadi are running fine although starting akonadi manually each time is a bit irritating.
strigi is unusable and blocking whole system (especially krunner), no errormessage though _________________ People don't have to earn my respect. I offer my respect to them, but be careful to lose my respect... |

This is the same bug as the now infamous 'krunner' bug.
You have to kill krunner, kmail, anything else using akonadi/nepomuk/virtuoso and then run it again. For me, every time I log into kde I have to: Code: |
$ killall krunner
$ killall kmail
$ krunner& |
and then kmail works again. Not sure if I need the last line, but it definitely doesn't hurt.
Either that, or downgrade soprano to 2.3.x and restart hald (which breaks neopmuk) |

WTF? On my system kmail only starts if the strigi file indexer is running... but that stupid thing seems to disable itself after each login and has to be started manually.
I wonder what the KDE devs were thinking when they created this mess. |

I think I've tried everything in this thread except downgrading soprano and I can't get it to work.
The funny thing is that it worked with 4.4 rc3 this morning before I updated to final. |

Has somebody tried the fix from https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304315 ?
I'll give it a try when I get home from work in 8hrs. _________________ People don't have to earn my respect. I offer my respect to them, but be careful to lose my respect... |

It will work with dev-libs/soprano-2.4.0. There are too many ways of causing the problem. To get it to work the clucene use flag must be set for soprano and strigi, and file indexing must be enabled. Dolphin or whatever program you are trying could already be running but hung up. The last thing I did was delete .xsession-errors so that a new one would be created after I logged out and logged in again. When I logged in dolphin started up without selecting it. After that I had no problems running dolphin. |

+1 on this. Now I have:
app-misc/strigi-0.7.0 +clucene
dev-libs/soprano-2.4.0 +clucene +java
and my kmail works again. |

I ended up nuking my .kde directories.
Sadly I messed up creating a backup
kmail runs, but is exceedingly slow.
Anyone had any problems with kmail talking to Courier IMAP? _________________ "The problem with quotes on the internet is that it is difficult

Hi.
I had the same problems with kmail. I downgraded soprano-2.4.0 to
2.3.1-r1 and everything runs fine on my system.

Updating to soprano-2.4.0-r1 seems to fix most of the problem related to krunner and kmail.
BTW: Looking at .xsession-errors I have a zillion of these:
Code: |
[/usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder] "/usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder(16059)" Error in thread 140123105146752 : "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownObject - No such object path '/org/soprano/Server'"
[/usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder] "/usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder(16059)" Error in thread 140123105146752 : "Unsupported operation (2)": "Invalid model"
|
Any idea where this is coming from?
BTW 2: When did the KDE project decide to use .xsession-errors as a general purpose tracer / logger? Right after logging in and starting Kmail there are already 3,8 MB worth of logs in there. Kmail logs every single attempt to retrieve an IMAP folder, even if successful. This is ridiculous. |

updating to soprano-2.4.0-r1 with clucene-useflag and recompiling strigi with clucene-useflag seem to fixed the most problems. Although I still have to start akonadi manually... _________________ People don't have to earn my respect. I offer my respect to them, but be careful to lose my respect... |

There are some problems with nepomuk/soprano which cause lots of grief to all of us.
With kde 4.4.0 the only officially supported nepomuk backend is virtuoso. If for some reason nepomuk crashes it tries to spawn new virtuoso server (rather then using existing one) and everything dies.
Recent soprano-2.4.0.1 fixed problem where applications hang if nepomuk was not running.
If nepomuk dies, personally I killall /usr/bin/virtuoso-t and start nepomuk again. I hope upstream will fix it soon. _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

There's still another problem with 4.4:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/strigi/+bug/519465
I start Strigi indexing and after some minutes it's off again. Seems like this is fixed in strigi 0.7.2, which isn't in portage yet. |

I seem to have fixed my akonadi and kmail problems - this is how, in case it helps anyone else.
My I originally had +sqlite and -mysql in my USE flags, and so akonadi-server was built this way. The problems seemed to be back-end database related so I rebuilt qt-sql with +mysql and akonadi-server with -sqlite +mysql.
This didn't fix the problem, and when trying to start akonadi manually with "akonadictl start" it crashed with the following message:
Code: | [akonadiserver] QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'initConnection' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.
[akonadiserver] Database "/home/nick/.local/share/akonadi/akonadi.db" opened using driver "QSQLITE" |
So, akonadi-server was still trying to open the database with the sqlite driver, even though it was now built without sqlite support.
It turns out there is a very well hidden setting in ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverc where I had to manually change "Driver=QSQLITE" to "Driver=QMYSQL". Now it all works fine and I can read my mail again.....
Incidentally, why does akonadi put all it's config stuff in ~/.local and ~/.config instead of under ~/.kde? Is it not a kde app? |
