Hello,

I am having a problem booting my Sun Enterprise 4500 with any gentoo sources kernel >2.6.17. A recent disk failure has forced me to reinstall so I am trying the latest 2008.0 minimal install (beta_2). The problem seems to come from an incompatibility with the PCI I/O board installed in my configuration. While the 2.6.17 kernel works with the board any kernel greater than this throws the following error at the PROM:
Code:
Booting Linux...
mem_init:  Calling free_all_bootmem().
psycho_irq_build:  Wacky IN0 build [3c]
Program terminated.
{0} ok

When I remove the PCI I/O board the system boots ok. I have confirmed this with the 2.6.20 and the 2.6.24 kernels (2007.0 and 2008.0 respectively). Has anyone else experienced this problem on an e4500 with the PCI I/O board? If so, is there a work around (that doesn't involve excluding the board from my system)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I know that I will be unable to answer your question here, but I was curious as to which PCI I/O board you have. Do you happen to have the Sun part number of the board?

The board is a Type 3 PCI I/O board, Sun Part # 501-4881 or X-option # X2632A. Thanks for the reply.

[necro]

Hey, sorry for the massively belated reply.

I vaguely recall this being an issue related to a rewrite of the PCI probing code in the kernel, and having to patch something to get it running. If you haven't figured it out / the issue still exists / you are still messing with this I can shoot you my kernel tarball.
