If I install GCC 3.2 and Gentoo 1.4, will I still be able to install stuff from binary format (I know, that isn't the point, but there is some stuff that is unavailable as source code) that was not compiled with 3.2? Due to the ABI change I don't think this is possible, but maybe I read the information incorrectly. |

If the binaries use no C++, then probably yes. If the binaries do use C++, then probably no, unless you keep an old version of libstdc++ around, as well as any other shared C++ libraries in use by these applications.
