feels good, doesnt it? congrats! :D

i'm gentoo only since a while now and the only one in my bureau. so far i didnt have any problems except trying hard not to pity the others too often. i watch them constantly struggling with virii, word(TM,R,C, whatnot), domain controllers... poor folks.

recently they started asking me if i can set up a little network aside from the big one (win) and if i can help them to use that subversion thing. got some surprised looks when i ran the crappy windows IDE i have to use in wine without problems. next thing i'll introduce them to is the waka wikki - they keep all their info in local word docs now :x . the longer i'm using exclusively gentoo, the less i'm able to understand how anyone (including me, as i did before) can use windows.

I am trying... I am trying... but I still can't use Gentoo when I want to l33ch and get games and instantly play them @ LAN parties.

I don't have 2-4 hours trying to get a game working in Wine/WineX when the other people are playing it .. :)

If I can make Steam (I know, I'm a loser :P) and UT2003 work in Gentoo, I'm gonna format my NTFS partition into ext2 ;)

UT2k3 is native for linux so it shouldn't be too hard.

I hav ebeen windows free for a few months now. I used windows as a crutch alot while I was dual booting. I liked to have it there even though I really never booted into it. I finally realised this and formatted the partition completely. The only computer in my house that runs windows is my parents computer.

I can't get my damn games to run, neiter with Wine, WineX, Win4lin (cheap bastards, only letting me try it for an afternoon because I had to 'reboot' all the time.. *mumble' )

I want to play Thief 1&2, and maybe some Monkey Island, but I can't.
Although I can play UT, which is the only thing keeping me sane...

Still, I wouldn't go back to windows for the world. :D

What happened?

I may have to keep win if I want to play C&C: Generals, support is not yet there for it... But I haven't felt the urge to play it in months, nor am I sick of it, so you never know... If I do reinstall Win, it will be only allocated a few GB and I would delete it soon :P...

I have to use some windows progs for school, for example dreamweaver in webdesign class or photoshop in arts class.

Even if I will never use any of them because I like doing html by hand, and using gimp for pictures, the teachers tell me that I have to use those progs to get a good grade at school. :(

You sure that doesn't mean "You can't do anything with GIMP, you won't be good enough"... Or "Use Windows or you fail, I have the ability to fake F's you know"?

I totally got rid of winblows a couple of years ago, this was the most satisfying command I ever issued:

Code:
# rm -rf /mnt/windows/*

I could have just repartitioned the drive but this was much more fun.

Glad you came to your senses.

I still have a few things keeping me from dumping the Windows partition:

1. Ultra Fractal 3.03 <--- Jesus, that is an incredible program. This is the primary reason.

2. Migrating spreadsheets to KOffice -- doing that even as we speak.

3. A stupid symbolic logic program for school. -- temporary.

4. My digital camera didn't work with Linux -- fixed as of 30 minutes ago! WOO!

5. Astonshell -- Windows shell replacement. Yeah, KDE & karamba compensate, but
I actually paid for it (and don't regret it), so I feel bad about giving it up.

6. Cakewalk, Cool Edit Pro, Photoshop 7, Flash MX 2004, and some other stuff. I, uh, paid for these. Yep. *darts off into the darkness*

But hey, Linux is gettin' better 'n' better, perhaps soon I can dump, er, VMWare *darts off into the darkness again* and move to just Wine, and then get rid of that too :-)
