|
|
Im planning to get separate partitions for:
/boot
/
/usr/portage
/var
/tmp
/home
Which fs would suit each partition best in terms of performance?
For now im only sure of Ext2 for boot:)
PS: This will be on fake raid using 2 hdds if that changes anything. _________________ i7 3930K @ 4GHz

I've never had data loss with ReiserFS 3. I did lose my configs with Ext4, though. But if you want all out performance, I hear ReiserFS 4 is where it's at, and it's also slated for kernel inclusion (2.6.33 I think). _________________ Git has obsoleted SVN.

Yes, ReiserFS 4 seems promising, with Reiser 3 I couldn't live with mount times, too long (particulary with >1T partitions). I'm using EXT4 since Jan'09 without any problems. EXT2 for /boot and EXT4 for everything else.

From personal experience, I've had trouble with ReiserFS and ghosting.
I usually stick to Ext3 for /, it works well with Windows. |

Mount time on my 1tb (hardware) RAID-5 array is nearly a minute. Since I seldom reboot, this isn't an issue for me.
