...just wanted to open a new thread about this, but since there is one already - here we go:
this is probably only for ~x86
A few days ago sys-devel/patch has seen a version bump from sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 to sys-devel/patch-2.6
Since then, app-office/openoffice (in this case: v. 3.1.1 - the latest) will not start to build because of patching is failing with:
| Quote: | ...
Execute with for distro(s) 'Gentoo Binfilter System Sdk Extensions Localize'
Can't get patch version
make: *** [stamp/patch.apply] Error 255
... |
Downgrading sys-devel/patch to its previous version (sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1) will fix this.
I have opened a bug on this
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293385
- where you can read that sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 is working just fine - and that the failure of sys-devel/patch-2.6 is _very_ probably not a failure of the program itself, but that the problem rather lies with how the check for a suitable version of sys-devel/patch is done in the openoffice build scripts.
I suspect the function
sub is_old_patch_version()
starting at line 913 of /ooo/patches/apply.pl.in
(/var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.1.1/work/ooo/patches/apply.pl.in)
to be the source of the error but can't code or even read perl code properly - much less fix it.
I see enough to suspect that it is an issue with the parsing of version numbers (of sys-devel/patch) - with sys-devel/patch-2.6 just having two numbers after the name while previous versions had four...
apply.pl --> it is perl code
The code:
| Code: | sub is_old_patch_version()
{
return 0 if $^O =~ /cygwin/i;
my $Patch;
my $ver_line;
my $is_old = 1;
open ($Patch, "@GNUPATCH@ --version|") || die "Can't run patch: $!";
$ver_line = <$Patch>;
$ver_line =~ m/\s+(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)/ || die "Can't get patch version\n";
if ($1 >= 2 && $2 >= 5 && $3 >= 9) {
$is_old = 0;
}
if ($is_old) {
print "Old patch version - pruning LFs\n";
}
return $is_old;
} |
Maybe someone here (very probably) can easily spot the problem with this line of code, checking for a suitable version of "patch".
Just add the solution to the bug - or put it here as a suggestion.
Eighter - preferrably just adding to the bug-report - would be very nice
Thanks!
ps:
The problem is not checking the version, but getting it, reading it in which fails for version 2.6 - but the check might need adapting too.
unfortunately I can't decipher what this code does and why it fails on version 2.6:
| Code: | | $ver_line =~ m/\s+(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)/ || die "Can't get patch version\n"; |
I've just submitted this to openoffice.org too:

The Bug at openoffice.org just got closed without being resolved because it is not a problem with openoffice itself, but rather with the "ooo-build"
build wrapper.
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107027
Someone somewhere at:
http://go-oo.org/
supposedly would need to take care of this.
The one who closed the bug probably knows, but did not care to tell :/
I can't find a place at http://go-oo.org/ where to report this - so I will give up on this.
Which I should not and don't like...but I seem to run in circles until someone who knows gives a direction.
Maybe the Maintainer directly?
here?
http://lilypond.org/~janneke/vc/ooo-build/
I don't know.
When patch version 2.6.0 comes out the problem will have solved itself - the parser is built for version numbers with 2 dots in it and thus fails for 2.6
the end _________________ Cheers |

@jomen, thanks for the effort and explanation . (I meanwhile took the easy path of blocking patch-2.6 for now.) _________________ Helium Sources || Gentoo Minimal Livecd |

Thats what I did too - meanwhile the ebuild got updated
and I still did not have time to report the bug a third time to the proper place at https://bugzilla.novell.com/ _________________ Cheers |
