Since the original thread is about to thirty pages, please continue any and all discussions of Pappy's Kernel Seeds here.

Also, since I was reminded by Mike Hunt, here is the link to the first discussion thread. Enjoy!

If the main page is down for a long time, please use the failover server. While downtime hasn't been a serious issue yet, it is better to be prepared than to wait for the problem to become a problem.

The failover can sometimes be a bit out of date. While I endeavor to make sure both sites are updated in tandem, there are times when that might not happen. Be assured things will be updated as soon as possible.

Blessed be!
Pappy

I've updated the page. I've added the link to this thread, as well as .configs for 2.6.30-gentoo-r8 (a bit late), 2.6.30-gentoo-r9, and 2.6.31-gentoo-r5. Enjoy!

Blessed be!
Pappy

Hello :)

I'm stuck. Tried to get gentoo hardened kernel working. Got acer aspire x1700 dual core 64bit with nvidia motherboard. Live CD boots fine, uses FORCEDETH and its working fine.
Yet after I will choose FORCEDETH in kernel, i get kernel panics once net.eth0 is starting. The eth0 is:
00:0f.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation MCP73 Ethernet (rev a2)
(all motherboard based on MCP73)

I have removed all other eth drivers from kernel as well, as a check, still panics. Now I'm trying genkernel command, to see if i'm making a mistake.

Pls advise, i soupposed to be running it as a server, and still nothing, loosing lots of time factor :(

thank you

p.s.

posted for help on this link as well (Sorry for doubble posts)

I understand why you double posted. If you send me your current .config file (cat /usr/src/linux/.config), the results of lspci -n and cat .proc/cpuinfo as well as your /etc/fstab file, I'll see what's happening with your system.

Blessed be!

I have just added .configs for 2.6.27.39 and 2.6.31.6 in both x86 and x86_64 flavors.

The site is currently in the process of being updated, including new custom graphics. I hope to have it going before Friday. I'll post when the new pages are up.

Blessed be!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I got those seeds out before the source hits portage. That is such a cool feeling!

Hello,

thnx for helping out.
I'm going overseas (work :/) Will contact back in few weeks time.

thanks :)

p.s. I have seen many errors with that nvidia chip (google) for gentoo, yet all were resolved. I haven't got enough time to compile normal gentoo kernel and see what will happen.

I am going to add Zen kernels. That has been in the works as an idea for some time. Now that Zen-sources is using a more standard setup, I am free to start working with them and posting them. I have other things that are a bit more important at the moment.

That said, it is my intent to get Zen seeds up as soon as possible, given the projects I've currently got in the hopper. I will definitely announce when Zen kernels are supported.

Yeah, I suppose I should have done that a while ago. Here it is! I also put up in the first post of the thread, like it should have been that day.

The site has been given a much needed facelift. There's still a bit to do, hence the new Coming Soon area. A huge amount of thanks to jason at feedimage.info for the new graphics, and Audiodef for helping me clean up the HTML. Take a look and see what you think.

Blessed be!
Pappy

PostPosted: Tue Nov 17, 2009 4:14 am    Post subject: 2.6.30-gentoo-r8 for VirtualBox Reply with quote

Pappy - you saved me a ton of trial and error.

I was trying to upgrade an otherwise up-to-date Gentoo server that I'm running under VirtualBox (on top of another Gentoo installation) from a 2.6.23-gentoo-r9 kernel to the current stable kernel and didn't seem to be able to get the IDE based system to boot (not able to find hda1). Then I remembered Pappy's Seed Kernels. Got one, added the necessary drivers and a few other tweaks.

Booted right up, not a single kernel error other than a warning that ehci_hcd has to be loaded before ohci_hcd.

I am wondering why the USB module order wasn't handled automatically and how I can influence that?

THANK YOU for your work.
