|

I have three hardware questions.
1.) I am wondering if anyone knows if the FireWire card included in the Pinnacle Studio 7 DV is compatible with Linux (Gentoo)? If so, is this something I would need to have compiled into the kernel? Also, are there movie editing software packages available for Linux?
2.) When I compile the kernel, I noticed I can choose a specific sound card. I did not see the chipset for the Sound Blaster Audigy listed as a choice. Do I need to compile sound card support into the kernel?
3.) I noticed that when configuring the kernel, an option was listed for high memory support. What is considered high memory? I currently have 512MB of RAM.
I appreciate any assistance. The patience and help of the gurus here is fantastic.
Thanks! |

2) If you're going to use ALSA, then just select "Sound card support," not support for any specific card.
3) "If you are compiling a kernel which will never run on a machine with more than 960 megabytes of total physical RAM, answer "off" here" (There is a built-in help in the kernel configuration) |

Can anyone offer advice for the initial question? I assume Linux provides support for FireWire devices, anyone have experience with the FireWire card included with Pinnacle's Studio 7 DV? Is there native software for Linux that is adequate for editing home movies?
Thanks! |

Can't exactly answer your question, but here is a bit more info from kernel config: Quote: | IEEE 1394 (FireWire) support (EXPERIMENTAL) ---> |
Quote: | --- Device Drivers
<*> Texas Instruments PCILynx support (NEW)
[ ] Use PCILynx local RAM (NEW)
[ ] Support for non-IEEE1394 local ports (NEW)
<*> OHCI-1394 support (NEW)
--- Protocol Drivers
< > OHCI-1394 Video support
< > SBP-2 support (Harddisks etc.) (NEW)
< > Raw IEEE1394 I/O support (NEW)
[ ] Excessive debugging output (NEW) |
Part of the likely answer is that, yes, you will need some Firewire support in the kernel. As to specific support, I'm not sure. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
