A couple questions about the logo.

Are you looking for vector art?
Something black and white, or with color?
And are you looking for something more of a logo, or something more "artistic"?

There you go. Do the color in bronze, or gold.

The logo is quite good imho :D

Btw guys, zen.git is up: git://zen-kernel.org/kernel/zen.git is the url.

zen-stable.git is gonna be up soon, waiting for cheater-conrad to show up so he can push it (i don't have the latest zen-stable unfortunately). Gitweb should also be up shortly.

Anything is open, I'm open to all sorts of ideas (color, no color, artsy, simple, etc)

Thanks guys!

@ponci
Very nice :D,
Just using a couple suggestions made in #zen-sources, could the face be made a little larger overall? and could the smile be made a tad smaller (just not to look out of palce), maybe make a cross legged penguin (might be too hard - someone suggested it but i can't even imagine a cross legged penguin at all so maybe ignore that part), and maybe to accentuate the buddha belly a bit more.

I know you just made it for fun and to be helpful :D , so i'm not very comfortable requesting changes but if you had the time and didnt have a problem it would be awesome if you could change any of those things it would be awesome. If not then no problem, i love the idea you have! (I think it's the perfect representation, it doesnt have to be serious looking either!)

Thanks Hugely! (I totally want to go with that logo idea, it's very creative)

I like that logo, but should it be less wide? If we're finding a new logo that can be used during boot time, maybe it should be square or vertical.

just a quick editing (as you said it's for fun :P )

http://omploader.org/vMmtvbw/zenpenguin.svg

no prob in modifying it again :)
if you like some specific mouth just point me at something shape-like ;)
for the budda face I used autotrace, while the penguin is the official one a little bit stretched.
not good at drawing but I worked a lot in pro pre-press and the cutandpaste-fu is strong in me

@saunders: nice logo :) i would only change the text ("zen kernel"), helvetica bold looks good.

I'll change it to whatever people want. Graphic design is part of my job so I can roll these off pretty quick.

ponciarello,

The one in gold looks cool, although I think the Buddha wears earrings. I'm sure folks will get it.

Could you please change the font to something less 'formal'? Also, some facial features of the penguin would be nice, like eyes (preferably looking down on you, cool-and-angry look ;D)

Is there any way we can help with adding content back to the website?

If you could give either of those a shot that would be cool!

Tell us what to write about or add.

Should we have forums? (phpbb3 or other, will they be used?). I think we should, they will be phpbb3 most likely if we had them and integrated with the plone user accounts. The only concern is that they won't be worth the space they take up on the server. I know people didn't like them before mainly because of the annoyances with the drupal module (but of course phpbb3 is a much better system)

It would be nice to have discussions there but Im not so sure if many people will post (although integrating with plone account is a huge benefit, anyone registered on zen-kernel.org would be able to post on the forums)

We will have a mailing list and bugzilla, which is probably good without a forum.

What we need on the website:

1. Clean install guides (I mean clean formatting) for most distributions (even though most users seem to be on Gentoo).

Bugzilla and mailing list are good - that would help.

Forums .... is a tough call, am not really sure how many people would end up using it. However, if we end up with non gentoo users as well, then an integrated forums would definitely be an option. I would say, that we take the jump, and force everyone to the zen forums on the server. It would waste space initially, annoy the hell out of all of us, but I think that in the long run it would benefit the project.

Very good, I've created an "instructionals" section where I plan on putting distribution specific instructions and git instructions along with misc. things.

I've already written by first distribution-specific one in fact :D, http://zen-kernel.org/tutorials (for debian/ubuntu)

I can easily write one for gentoo and git, someone else can make one for arch. Not sure how fedora or other distros do things.
