Hi everyone,

I've spent yesterday and today updating everything on my system. It had been several months since I last updated, so it's taken a while but it's finally done! :)

emerge -uDp world reports nothing to install, and revdep-rebuild reports a clean system!

Amongst many other things, I've followed the guide for using KDE split packages, which seemed to go well (I only installed kdebase-meta). However, I still have some problems.

First, kdesktop crashes when trying to display JPG files. For example, if I right click on the desktop and select "Configure Desktop", then select a JPG image from the list available (or from a file), it crashes (the window disappears, the background goes black momentarily and it gets restarted). PNG files work fine.

JPG images work fine in Konqueror, and if I right click on one and select "Set As Background" --> "Centered", this also causes KDesktop to crash, and I get the "KDE Crash Handler" thingy. After this, I can't restart KDesktop until I edit ~/.kde3.5/share/config/kdesktoprc to remove reference to the JPG file that I tried to set as the background.

Second (maybe not related), amarok no longer works since the upgrade.

Code:
martin@samus ~ $ amarok
Segmentation fault
martin@samus ~ $

martin@samus ~ $ amarokapp
STARTUP
Amarok is crashing...
Running: gdb --nw -n --batch -x /tmp/kde-martin/amarokACI5Rb.tmp amarokapp 7638
Running: file `which amarokapp`
1.4.10p20090130 [___stripped][validity: 0.77][frames: 103][]
martin@samus ~ $

I can't access https://bugs.gentoo.org (seems to be down) to search for known problems regarding these issues at the moment, so please forgive me if they are known or easily solvable.

Anyone got any ideas? I've tried remerging both kdesktop and amarok, but this makes no difference, and revdep-rebuild is reporting a clean system.

Cheers,
Martin

EDIT: Versions are as follows:

kde-base/kdesktop-3.5.10
media-sound/amarok-1.4.10_p20090130-r3

I've solved the Amarok segmentation fault. It took ages, but the following command fixed it:

Code:
emerge -e amarok

I'll try the same for kdesktop too.

I had a similar problem a few days ago, as I didn't follow the notes after upgrading media-libs/jpeg.

I don't have the notes at hand, but check your emerge log as there's some special steps to take with that package...

Thanks very much! That solved the KDesktop/JPG crashes!

I really should take more notice of the notes. :p
