Hi,

I started making a list of non-SUN PCI cards working in Sparc systems.
Note that the "Working" status of each card is valid for Linux only. If you dualboot with Solaris, it might be that the cards work in Linux but not in Solaris.
If you got a PCI based Sparc, a few PCI cards and some free time, I would really appreciate if you could contribute some information to this list and send any test results, including Type of card, Vendor, Model, Chipset, your Kernel version, the System (e.g. Ultra10, Ultra60 etc), the working status (Green = full working, Yellow = partly working, Red = not working) and your comments to: me at 0x1337 dot net.

Thanks and I hope this is usefull for someone :-)

Regards,
bazik

EDIT: Fixed the url :)

That's cool. I just got myself a rebranded ultrasparc (10 family) workstation, and I'm going to start toying around with it soon, so I might be able to contribute something to your list.

Hi,

Like I said in my email, I appreciate what you're doing. Keep it up!

You can add an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI controller to your list. Works flawlessly. Won't boot from it though.

I have a Promise Ultra ATA-133 TX2 controller running on an Ultra30.

It's using the 66Mhz pci slot and running on kernel 2.4.21-sparc-r1 (although I'm hoping to move to 2.6.0-test7 soon).

I am running 2x 30Gb IDE drives from it (Raid0). You have to roll your own kernel to get the card supported, and I also had problems with trying to get the driver loaded as a module. So I've currently compiled it in. Also, you can't boot off the drives as I guess Openboot has no idea what the hell it is, so I have my system on the internal 4Gb SCSI drive, and have all data on the raid.

I've had no problems so far...

I've just got a NetGear MA 311 PCI Wireless 802.11b card working - ish....

Running on an Ultra 5 with the orinoco_pci kernel drivers

Kernel 2.4... - doesn't work, you get an error initialising firmware

Kernel 2.6.3 - Modules load OK, and it works ok with wireless-tools-24, :D but I haven't been able to get it going with wireless-tools-26 yet. :? - wireless-tools generates lots of segmentation faults.

I also get warnings about wireless extension version mismatches. But hey - it's working so I'm not complaining....
