Would it be a good idea to make an ebuild of Enlightenment 0.17 and all of its components and dependencies? As far as I can tell, it is evolving quickly into a full desktop environment, to compete with the likes of Gnome and KDE. But it looks much cooler, as anyone who use/uses enlightenment knows
Although I haven't used it yet, I think it may be at the point where an ebuild could provide the infrastructure to support E17 when it becomes stable (at its current rate... about 10 years from now)
I could (possibly) make an ebuild of it, if I get it working. I plan to try it this weekend...
If you want to check it out, the url is http://www.enlightenment.org/pages/components.html. _________________ Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day. |

Yes - if it is stable enough,
No - if it isn't stable.

Well, that's the thing. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know... they keep development pretty closed; there's no indication how close they are to a stable version... the only way I can tell is by trying it.
After I try it, i'll post here about my experiences. _________________ Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day. |

I think there are quite a few forum members that use E17. I've not really heard much about stability though. IIRC, just some installation issues, but those could be due to lack of an ebuild . Good luck. Get an ebuild, and I'll even try it out to help test it. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

an ebuild for e17 would be fantastic. i have tried numerous times to install it via cvs, but something always goes wrong...
let us know how it turns out for you. |

I'd have to say no to an E 17 ebuild. I was a big fan of E 16, so I gave E 17 a spin. Believe me... it lacks all the features of E 16. It's not even on par with FVWM as far as functionality goes. Virtual desktops barely even work. Menus have to be edited with a db editor, as they are not flat text files. All around, it was a pain. E 16 is much better as a WM so far. Granted, this is all based on the E 17 debs I used a while ago, so it may be better now (though I doubt it). |

i try to build it from CVS, but evas never compiles and most everything after evas on the list depends on evas, so i can't install it.
as per the enlightenment sight, e17 is stable, but lacking features. but many of the features of e16 are thier and functional, having a ebuild maintainer fallowing e17 would be great. i am very interested in e17 as i am not satisfied with KDE or gnome2(gnome1.4 was cool though) , i do like fluxbox, but im looking for some more features.. |

Unfortunately (and sorry for taking so long to get back to you all)... I don't have time to maintain an ebuild permanently... I'm starting school in a week! If anyone else wants to maintain it, please volunteer here.
I haven't even started on this yet, it was just an idea, and I've been on vacation, and I haven't had time. I might get to it this week, but it could be longer. _________________ Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day. |
