You are using monolithic kde, it will be masked pretty soon, just save your time and switch to kde-meta instead of kde.
Problem will disappear. |

Another fine example of bad attitude from Gentoo developers...
After breaking your otherwise fine and functional system, they just despise you and don't provide meaningful support: "KDE monolithic ebuilds? ha ha ha, so last century... Poor guy... Hey! Have you seen that lamer? ROTFL"
Mandril, you may still update without having to rebuild all KDE (at least for now, but why not wait for 3.5.10 or 4.x to make it worthwhile):
Code: | $ emerge -C ktorrent
$ emerge --oneshot --nodeps ktorrent |
Please note however that it's far from perfect as ktorrent won't be updated automatically by portage thereafter, and so you'll need to track updates to ktorrent manually (then run the last command to update). Unless they fix that stupid *bug*.
Gentoo devs: thanks again for imposing your beliefs and agenda on people. Gentoo really *was* about choice. But not anymore, far from it.
As an experienced project manager, I cannot understand how trading computer power (compiling the monolithic packages delivered by the kde developers) for human ressources (making so many ebuilds and tracking indivdual changes to kde apps and subsystems) can be efficient in any way. Furthermore, humans tend to introduce errors in anything they do, so more debugging and testing. What a *marvelous* idea, again.
Gentoo: what do you want to break today? |

So is there a guide that shows how to migrate from the monolithic KDE to the meta version ?
I dont really want to emerge kde-meta (massive). What packages do I need to remove & what do they need to be replaced with ?? |

In this case unmerge kdebase and emerge kdebase-meta. For more information see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde-split-ebuilds.xml
That guide will also explain why the move from monolithic to split ebuilds was made, why it is good for users.
Athenaios: what gives you the right to be so vitriolic about Gentoo's volunteer developers? Your comments are totally off the mark. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, refer to "Blocked package confusion". |
