When I try to emerge the smpeg plugin for xmms, it fails with the following error
Code:
checking for SDL - version >= 1.1.5... yes
checking for smpeg-config... /usr/bin/smpeg-config
checking for SMPEG_new_data in -lsmpeg... no
configure: error: *** SMPEG 0.4.1 not installed! Get it at http://www.lokigames.com/development/smpeg.php3 ***

!!! ERROR: the ./configure command did not complete successfully.
!!! ("./configure --prefix=/usr --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu")
!!! Since this is a critical task, ebuild will be stopped.

!!! emerge aborting on  /usr/portage/media-video/smpeg-xmms/smpeg-xmms-0.3.4-r1.ebuild .

technically, the error is correct --- SMPEG 0.4.1 is not installed. SMPEG 0.4.4 _is_ installed, however, and portage doesn't contain v0.4.1 anymore (if it ever did).

as side info, I was able to emerge smpeg-xmms back when I was using gcc 2.95.3 (I'm now using gcc 3.1). I'm not sure if that is directly related since it's failing in 'configure' and not 'make'.

I also had no trouble emergeing xmms itself or any of the other plugins that I've tried (xmms-volnorm & avi4xmms)

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

there is a patch for smpeg at https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5558

it is a bug with smpeg/gcc (it is not in smpeg-xmms)

New ebuilds in Portage!

Please unmask and test! I need successful compiles with gcc-3.1 and gcc-2.95 before I perm unmask.

smpeg-0.4.4-r3 and smpeg-xmms-0.3.4-r2

Post if it works or it doesn't work to...
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5558

Thanks

I included a new smpeg-xmms-0.3.5 as well. You can test that one too if you guys want.. Still post to the same bug above.

Compiled with Gcc 3.1 and these flags:

Code:

CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-mcpu=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -m3dnow -mno-sse -mno-sse2"
CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -m3dnow -mno-sse -mno-sse2"

Just watched a 2h DivX movie without problems :)
