It's clearly making me mad

1. Sometimes topis don't get marked as "read" even if I open them a couple of times.
2. Sometims I have a dozen unread topics in a subforum but this subforum has a "read" icon on the main site.
3. When I log out and then log back in (thinking that maybe this will help with 1 or 2) everything is marked as "read".

So now if I want to keep myself up to date I have to open every single subforum and look if anything has changed. When I wan't something to be marked read I have to make the whole subforum read and then go back and check if a topic didn't emerge (heh...) between me reading the previous ones and clicking the "mark all as read" link.

And it's back...

Did you guys change the forum script yesterday? For a few months now, I've been spending quite a lot of time here, daily, and I never had this problem. I mean, how often can I clear my cookies.... (I guess as often as I want/have to)

The "new posts" highlight style doesn't "stick" until I've checked out those threads under in the ego search. If I click on one topic, post something, and return to my ego search, all highlighting is gone. Browser used when last noticed: Opera.

Mostly this happens on Windows for me, but had sometimes problems on Linux, too.
Both Systems using Firefox latest version.

Thanks disi for locating the dupe.

Let me add to this one:

Could something be rigged so that if one's thread is merged with another, it's made obvious, or a pm is sent to the author of the merged thread? For a minute, I'm looking at the subject of this thread going "That's NOT the subject I wrote! What kind of bug - oh, wait, I know what happened now". :P

More obvious than this? 8O

The PM is an interesting idea. Like many other interesting ideas, it must languish until after the phpBB3 update (Real Soon Now[tm]). Even so, people who check their egosearch before their Inbox will see the in-thread notice before the PM, making the latter somewhat redundant. I suspect it's impossible to indicate in the search results that a merge took place, so for some people a moment of confusion is unavoidable.
