| Please always provide your "emerge --info" output when posting error messages. Also, are you sure that the listed message was the first error listed in the output? Further, you should probably provide the output of "emerge -pv xulrunner", so that all the relevant USE flags will be displayed. |

Nah, this one looks more like a parallel make failure,
unless the errors began a few lines earlier. |

If not paralel make, then perhaps ccache ?
But put a few lines more, at least command that was trying to create
'staticlib/components/librdf.a' and the one that was supposed to create
'nsRDFXMLSerializer.o'. |

Maybe you should clean up your ccache directory inside /var.
Last time that I checked at work, I removed more then 3 Gig of data |

In my case, I don't have a /var/tmp/ccache.
ccache is disabled. |

or use
(just in case you have set CCACHE_DIR in make.conf to a different location) _________________ BOFH Excuse #450:

In fact, but by default it's inside /var.
3 gigs of data in only 6 months, so maybe you should run this before :
| Code: |
# du -sh /var/tmp/ccache*
|
Just to see the place that you will save |

Isn't it a bug if you HAVE TO clear the cache to "fix" an emerge fail? |
No, it's not. You do not have to clear the ccache for every emerge failure, but for this you have _________________ BOFH Excuse #450:

I guess, that it was initially a parallel make problem,
that is due to parallel make failure an object was not built,
when it was needed for linking, but when it failed,
a partially compiled code got stuck in ccache and you simply had to unstuck it.
Though I do wonder if there's a sane way to manually identify the offending
object in cache, so you wouldn't have to purge the whole cache on such occasions ? |

Same problem here and the problem was resolved with:
| Code: | | FEATURES="${FEATURES} -distcc" emerge -1 net-libs/xulrunner |
I didn't need any action around ccache.
In my experience, failures in distributing happen really often.
There are a lot of packages that fail to compile if distcc is enabled.
I cannot understand why those packages don't disable the distribute compilation, while other packages silently do it.
Is it a portage weakness or a sources weakness?
(Or is it NOT a weakness?)
