Is there a way to install Gentoo onto this? The WM2003 software is freakin' old and I want something more updated.

Gentoo would be possible, but a bit hard.

You can, however, install familiar or intimate on it. Check out handhelds.org.

I would, except that they're too damn old. I'm up to the challenge, though.

okay.

First get linux installed the first time - make sure it works and all that.

Take their kernels, and move the patches up (I'd stop at around .25 or .27). get a working recent kernel.

Build a system (I wouldn't suggest building on the device) based on arm gentoo...

Have fun with specifics :P

Ok.. So, how do I set it up? I know I have to have a specific bootloader.

BTW: This thing only has 48MB of Flash. It does have an SD Card slot, though.

First thing's first - install the distribution that works.

I would start by getting a kernel working, and then installing that userspace onto an sd card (room to expand), fiddling with everything until it works (might be hard), and then worry about gentoo.

Ok.. I'm checking out HaRET right now and put in a 2GB SD Card.

Just hunting for a distro I can throw on here.

HaRET is hella useful...I forgot you could use that on ipaqs...

put familiar on.

You may consider, if you can get away with it on your device, leaving winmo flashed and playing around with haret to boot.

Also, angstrom might make more sense as a distro than gentoo...
