Could anyone please tell me if bootstraping from stage one requires downloads?
I do not have Flatrate. Thanks to Deutch Telekom, so I MUST plan my downloads/installs to fit!

Thanks

Thank you, also, damn.
But it was better to ask than wait hours to find out THEN have to stop.

Weirdly, I just noticed both the DIMM's in my u10 are 256MB's, yet they both only register as 64MB. That's a bit of a letdown!

get the handbook on sunsolve.sin.com and check if these dimms can be installed on the banks they are in now.
I'm not sure for the U10, buton other sparcs there some banks that can only be filled with a specific amount om RAM. So when you drop a larger DIMM in it, it recognizes only the amount it can take.

As the U10 and the U5 got the same motherboard, I can assure you that 256 MB ECC DIMM's work in all 4 DIMM banks. A few questions remain:

1) Is this 60ns or 50ns memory?
2) Did you try putting the DIMM's in another bank?

I tried different banks (applied some PC understanding to a machine where it does not apply normaly ;)
it's 60ns I belive, and the documentation on sunsolve last night said the the u5 cannot actually take these dimms. But the u10 can.
It is ECC still, though yes.
Although I did not try banks 3&4, only 1&2, and it was origionaly in 2&3. I sall give 3&4 a go now as I see the sparc seem to read "banks 1 + 2 & 3 + 4 at once. Hope tat's it!

Nope, no slot works, I think it's time to just give up and live with 64MB then, it's very weird though, why would an office who USED the machine, misslabel the amount of ram? You only have to turn it on to see how much is there, and thats far easier than unscrewing it to find out!

Yeah but that part is just wrong in the documentation. As I said, both machines got the same motherboard ( I have a UPA slot in my Ultra5, although a C3D or E3D would never fit in the case) and the U5 *can* take 256mb 50ns DIMM's.

The docs also say the U5 cant handle a 440 MHz CPU, but thats what I have in mine :)

docs are definitely wrong.. I've got 320mb ram in my U5/360.. works fine.
But a 440 IIi would be nice
