I am trying to get rid of pam in my build. If I omit pam in the use line in make.conf, will it get rid of the cursed thing?
Thanks

Try
The default use variable is set in /etc/make.profile/make.defaults, don't edit this file, it is likely to be overwritten, instead add or subtract variables in /etc/make.conf. _________________ - Kyle Manna

This is to document the steps I had to take to get rid of the dreaded PAM, other than USE="-pam". The shadow package was going to drag it in no matter what, due to a hard-wired config option "--with-pam" (I think). I ended up building and installing the package by hand. Same with gdm. There was a --enable_authenticaton_scheme=pam wired in. I got rid of pam, and all build and runs great |
