|

Hi,
I have a _VERY BIG_ problem, today I did an emerge sync and emerge hang :S. Everytime I retry it, emerge hangs on different points. Sometimes when just connected, sometimes when download X e-builds and so on.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
I'm very frustrated, please help!

I think it will be hard to answer your post, because it lacks a detailed description of the errors and maybe your specs and the lines in your make.conf, especially CFLAGS, would be important for the forumusers to give a qualified answer. _________________ no pain, no gain |

That's the problem, it doesn't give any errors, and CFLAGS is not relevant to this topic, because it's not when I'm compiling, only when I do "emerge sync". _________________ http://techfield.org |

it might be a long shot, but we don't have much info here...
i would guess you have to set a proxy, and emerge sync "hangs" because the connection is disposed yet |

Do you have a DSL conn to Internet?
If so, it probably is (was) an incorrect MTU setting for ppp0.
Try using 300 (using ifconfig), and get back up, step by step, to near 1500, until it hangs again. Note that once you make "emerge sync" work out, traffic with the mirror won't be large enough to properly test your conn and its MTU setting in the following syncs.
You might as well choose to walk down your MTU until it works, of course |

I don't connect through a proxy and don't have a DSL connection to the internet. Changing the sync mirror (in make.conf) however, solved this problem a long time ago. Although they didn't help me, thanks for all your help.
Greets,
