Hi,
I have problems watching movies in SMPlayer. If video is in fullscreen mode everything is ok, but in smaller, windowed mode picture is black, I can only hear music. When desktop effects are disabled everything is ok. Ouput driver is xv.

| Ok it is kind a solved, well maybe it is better to say that I found a way around the problem. With X11 output drivers it works. I am using fglrx drivers. With glfast I get flickering picture. I would still like to find out how to get xv driver work. |

you can't. xv is broken (and it is not fglrx fault - well at least not entirely). You are using some 8.XY driver? Try 9.1 or 9.2 with them xv works with composite on but still has a bug.
