How about a forum to just discuss eBuilds, tricks with them, making them, and people can request them if they feel they aren't up to doing it themselves... |

I'm all for it. I thinks this will fit quite well into the Development section of the forums. |

...then why add another forum to our already-way-too-large selection? _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

In the section development are Gentoo Suggestions, Bugs, Programming, Documentation and GCC3. In which one of these should the ebuild discussions go?
I agree with you that there are too many forums ATM, but I guess one for ebuilds would be quite good, because I don't really see where else we could post them without annoying people not interested in making ebuilds. |

Well if u go like that wed easily have 10k+ forums. Ud have to break down desktop enviorments into every single prog that exists, so KMail users wont have to look at probs with Syphledd. I don't thnk its to big a deal to group some things together, and how bad could it be to read a post about ebuilds every now and then. Requests would easily fall under gentoo suggestoins, and i think making them could fall under programming. So why is another forum needed? |

Ok, I don't really need the forum, I just thought it was a good idea. If we don't get it, no big deal.
So where should ebuild questions be posted? All things Gentoo seems right... |

Either that or you could you do sub-forums? (I know vB can do it not sure about phpBB). You could make an eBuild subforum of the dev forum... |

If it is about an existing ebuild, then likely not under the development section until it is determined to be buggy. New ebuilds are often 'requested' under Suggestions. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

The ebuild forum sounds valuable to me.
I've been searching around for the proper place to ask if anyone can point to a ebuild where the package is using Vmake? SAP DB is committed to sticking with it and I want an ebuild for it. Considering the pain in just a regular compile, I could use a template to look through. _________________ ~~ Whatever it takes. |

I'd love to see an ebuild forum
I doubt it would be the first step down the slippery slope to 10K forums...and as a matter of fact since ebuilds are the the basic building blocks for Gentoo I'd think it could be a very valuable place to learn, teach, and share.
Which should lead to more and better ebuilds and to a better distro _________________ "information superhighway" is just an anagram for "i'm on a huge wispy rhino fart". |
