Hello!

When I emerge things, such as kde, many dependencies are emerged as well. However, these don't get included in world, so they don't get checked for updates when i do emerge --pretned --update world

Is there an easy to check and see if these packages also need updating?

TIA

You bad boy, you should've searched the forums, as this has been discussed many times before.

You can add all installed packages to world. The world file sits in /var/cache/edb/world. Backup the file, make sure you have qpkg (gentoolkit package) installed and run:
Code:
qpkg -I -nc > /var/cache/edb/world

This will list all the installed packages and create the world file. Now you can try updating world again.

Don't let anyone know (ooh the humilation and the shame ;)) but I already have a teacher's diploma (just need some more teaching hours for the final stamp). Don't think I'm gonna become one though....
