hi - Im running amd64 - after an update vlc doesnt work with firefox anymore.

Quote:
about:plugins
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.22.2)

File name: libtotem-cone-plugin.so
The Totem 2.22.2 plugin handles video and audio streams.
MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-vlc-plugin unknown Yes
application/vlc unknown Yes
video/x-google-vlc-plugin unknown Yes

It uses totem although it is installed.
I have the USE flag "nsplugin" globally.
Is there a "howto use vlc with firefox" ?

Why doesnt it use vlc?

Thanks

Ok, I spent several hours reading - now I managed to emerge totem with -nsplugin useflag. That removed it. But emerging vlc with nsplugin doesnt install the vlc-plugin. I managed to emerge mplayerplugin but mplayer doesnt play the videos from www.zdf.de mediathek in colour. So Id really want my vlc-plugin back.

Can anyone give me support ?

Thanx

So try mplayer -playlist http://wstreaming.zdf.de/zdf/56/090116_schloesser_dde.asx. Don't need vlc

mplayer plugin is playing fine here. screenie (don't bother with the bad xv output, it is nvidia driver problem). I used "windows media player setting".

thanks alot for your replies.

I managed to get vlc working. I had to emerge firefox3. I was still runnning firefox2 and obviously the vlc-plugin doesnt work with firefox2 anymore.
the mplayer-plugin works ok - but I have a nvidia card and somehow the colors get mixed up and its not really nice to watch it with mplayer.

Hm, how did you get it to work? In my case I just get black square and the message "Video is loading". No video is actually loaded and played. I also have amd64. Here my USE flags

Installed versions: 0.9.8a(14:42:05 03/09/09)(X a52 aac alsa dbus dts dvd fbcon ffmpeg flac libgcrypt libnotify live matroska mmx mp3 mpeg ncurses nsplugin ogg opengl png qt4 sdl skins sse truetype vorbis xv -aalib -altivec -arts -atmo -avahi -bidi -cdda -cddax -cddb -cdio -dc1394 -debug -dirac -directfb -dvb -esd -fluidsynth -fontconfig -ggi -gnome -gnutls -hal -httpd -id3tag -jack -kate -libass -libcaca -libsysfs -libv4l2 -lirc -lua -modplug -musepack -optimisememory -oss -pda -pulseaudio -pvr -remoteosd -rtsp -run-as-root -samba -schroedinger -sdl-image -seamonkey -shout -speex -stream -svg -svga -taglib -theora -twolame -upnp -v4l -v4l2 -vcdinfo -vcdx -vlm -win32codecs -x264 -xinerama -xml -xosd -zvbi)

about:plugins reports that vlc plugin is used and has no problems, but there's no video. I wanted to try it with opera, but opera does not pick up this plugin at all.

No. It didn't work. I've made sure that I use the same USE keywords, but no luck. When I run firefox in terminal, here's what I get (in case someone is interested :) )
