Gentoo versions of debfoster (http://www.fruit.eu.org/debfoster/) and cruft (http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/cruft.html) would be nice.
With debfoster you specify only the packages you want to use (eg. kmail, mozilla..), if the dependencies of these packages changes old packages are automatically removed. Packages that your selected apps depend on are ignored.
Cruft checks your whole filesystem and makes sure that every file is in the package db, and all the checksums match. An auto re-compile and fix option for broken files would be nice as well.
Another unrelated suggestion - all binaries should have a man page (like Debian policy), I see too many things here that don't. The only way to tell what they do is read the source code or just run it.. |

the germ of this is already present in the Gentoo.
The world file keeps a record of the packages
that you have specifically asked for. |
