|
|
Hi I'm new to gentoo linux, I have used RH Linux in the past.
I have a Toshiba 1800 series laptop (maybe I should be posting in laptop section?) Detection of pcmcia wireless nic (Dlink dwl 650) worked like a charm which surprised me as other distros didn't even come close.
Following the x86 instruction manual online during the script/bootstrap.sh process the lcd display went black... I ended up having to reboot and losing all previous steps. Any one else experience this?
Video card is a Ali CyberBlade XP (supported in XFree 4.2) I don't think it is the problem though as X is not even installed at this point.
I am currently rerunning script/bootstrap.sh and argh there it goes again.
My harddrive lights are still on and one is blinking.... NIC is still on as well Access point seems to be transmitting data to nic.
Touchpad does not bring back the screen, neither does pressing enter.
Any ideas area greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the tip fghellar.
I found out how to get the screen back by using the arrow keys.
Seems as though it is a console based screen saver, strange....
I'll have to disable the screen blanking when I get home from work.
Might also be something in the BIOS, I'll check that out, once I am finished installing. |

Hehe, I have the same on my Laptop (Compaq Armada M300).
It's a sort of standard screensave on most Laptops. The setterm
command does the trick just fine. But I suggest, just to let it run
and look if it still compile from time to time just to protect the LCD _________________ Gentoo Linux/Sparc Developer

Na bootstrap is bomb proof most of the time, you can even kill it a few hundred times and it'll start off at the last package. |
