|
|
Hi,
since i'm quite new to gentoo, i was wondering if i could emerge applications without compiling source .. i learnt that the -K option installs binaries.
Now i would like to intall e.g. openoffice as binaries, since it takes way too long to compile (and i'm not interested in that 1-2% performance gain by compiling it)
How can i install openoffice ?
emerge -K openoffice tells me that no packages or ebuilds could be found after calculating dependencies ..
plz help - even if it's a noobish question
thx ! |

For -K to work you have to have the precompiled packages available locally, in $PKGDIR (e.g. /mnt/cdrom/packages if you have the second gentoo installation CD mounted).
If you don't have the second CD but want a precompiled OpenOffice, you have to run:
Code: | emerge openoffice-bin. |
