|
|
I emerged the latest nVidia drivers this evening, and my OpenGL performance has suddenly hit rock bottom. Here are the drivers I'm using:
Code: | * media-video/nvidia-glx
Latest version available: 1.0.4496
Latest version installed: 1.0.4496
Size of downloaded files: 5,005 kB
Homepage: http://www.nvidia.com/
Description: XFree86 GLX libraries for the NVIDIA's X driver
* media-video/nvidia-kernel
Latest version available: 1.0.4496-r3
Latest version installed: 1.0.4496-r3
Size of downloaded files: 5,005 kB
Homepage: http://www.nvidia.com/
Description: Linux kernel module for the NVIDIA's X driver |
These showed up as an update when I ran "emerge -pu world", so I went ahead and installed them and didn't change anything else in my system, and now, all my OpenGL apps just drag. Does anybody know what's going on? |

what kernel are you using? i'm using vanilla 2.4.22 and nvidia-kernel won't compile because a header file is "missing" (it is available in my 2.4.21 linux sources tree)...
basically what this info means for us (ie you and me who are having problems) is that i think this version bump is problematic all around...
Code: | root@angela payam # time emerge -u nvidia-kernel
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.4496-r3 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg0.run
>>> Unpacking source...
Creating directory NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg0
Verifying archive integrity... OK

I'm using gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r7. On a whim, I went ahead and emerged the individual packages again (nvidia-kernel, nvidia-glx), and for whatever reason, this time it took. Not sure why things went wacko before. |
