I've also gotten GTA3 to work with WineX CVS. For me the problem lies in that it's just a tad slow to play (while in Windows it's pretty good). I have a pII 400, 256mb ram, nVidia GTS. |

At first it didn't work with the gentoo winex, but the CVS of today works fine!
The game runs great, but it isn't very playable on a athlon 1600 with geforce GTS. But they are workin on that
|
This is great
I also tried GTA3 with the emerged version of winex, but that didn't work.
How can I download the CVS version?
Also, it would be kinda cool to see your winex config's. Configuring the drives seems pretty obvious, but I left all other settings like they were by default. Anything I should change here (like for 3D support etc.) ?
Thanks for your help in advance,
and keep that linux gamescene rocking
Devellopers should get aware of the fact that there IS an amount of gamers out there that runs on linux and linux only (iD software does know it, how about the others...? ) I hope this will change soon in the near future. |

For you guys that have gotten gta3 to work, I wonder if you could mail me some of your config files. I'm having troubles getting it to work. Could you mail me your winex config and registry files? Hopefully I may find something to help me get mine working.
I'd really appreciate it. send them to stolenID@cfl.rr.com |

For GTA3 a la WineX I have a seperate config which I make a shell script copy over ~/.transgaming/config -- let me paste it here. I found that other settings for other games just would not work.
Also, if ANYONE has gotten GTA3 to work well fullscreen please let me know how you did it
The only problem I've noticed with this is that sometimes the mouse kinda "goes out" of the GTA3 window if I whip it around quickly. Weird?

This is primarily the only [and I mean ONLY] reason I still dual boot into Windows. So far, you just can't beat it for games.
However, that is mainly due to the game companies not taking the time to release them for linux as well.
I can also tell you that Unreal Tournament runs better [using the loki installers] under linux then it ever did under windows... |

I got GTA3 running in fullscreen, too.
I don't have the config file by hand, so I am not sure, but I think you have to switch DGA off.
Just try it out, it is possible. |

Fullscreen as in with the managed option turned off? When I did this the game won't accept keyboard input. The best I could do is run the wine window with the same res as my desktop. |

load extmod
or
SubSection "extmod"
# Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
EndSubSection
will do the trick, works fullscreen and great , well.. it works |

You guys can get GTA3 to work well with today's CVS of WineX, then?
I still get an exception error in a little popup window whenever I try. I USED to work with WineX CVS about a week ago but over the past few days I've been having this problem. If anybody knows anything that might help me please let me know!! |

This might be a little off topic, but here goes. The way I understand it is that wineX is free source & if you subscribe to transgaming you get some binaries that help with copy protected games. I haven't actually emerged wineX, but I obviously won't get those binaries, but since I have them already from Transgaming, I'm hoping that emerging wineX will be able to use them. Comments on this?
Secondly, wineX appears to have a very active CVS tree, is it possible to create a wineXCVS ebuild (versioned of course) that would do a CVS get and compile? From the limited knowledge I have of ebuilds (they're basically scripts) this sounds plausable - has it already been done?
I think it would be cool if you could "emerge wineXCVS" and it would get the latest CVS tree & install it for you like a regular emerge, it is consistant with the rest on Gentoo & doesn't seem that hard. Has it been done?
Any thoughts on this?
Cheers

What works for me is:
1 grab a CVS image
2 tar the wine dir to winex-2002xxxx.tar.bz2
3 put it in /usr/portage/distfiles
4 copy an old ebuild file to a new ebuild file
5 make a digest from that
6 emerge winex
Works perfectly. |

Wow, OK. I was thinking that you could set the SRC_URI (?) files to some dummy variable, and in the source_compile() section have
export CVS blah blah
cvs -co /wine blah blah
compile as normal from here.
Also - what is a digest?
Cheers

An MD5 hash of the file, for Portage to use to make sure you got a good download of the package. _________________ Gentoo:
