Optimization when building qt?

I am emerging qt 3.2.1 and just noticed that no CFLAGS that I have set in /etc/make.conf and in environment variables are used for compiling it. I know qt uses special files for each platform/compiler to determine CFLAGS to build. So it is not compatible with standard configure.

I looked at ebuild and didn't find any place where it would insert custom gentoo system CFLAGS into qt config files. Was this done by anyone at all?
