|
|
I looking forward to the next GMN since weeks. Every morning i look if it's there. When it will published? Since there are articles like http://www.linux-user.de/ausgabe/2008/11/003/index.html i would appreciate it as an another "sign of life" that gentoo is alive, if the GMN will published early.
Regards,
o.j.

No new GMN this morning
If gentoo is in the press (in the editorial of current linux-user magazine), shouldn't gentoo
publish more so the GMN?
No new GMN = Another missing sign of life |

The GMN is not the GWN, since it only comes out once a month.
You'll have to wait till then _________________ /* Insert funny quote */ |

Maybe i did not phrase that exactly: I am looking forward for the Oktober issue of the genoo monthly newletter (GMN), which seems to be published at the end of a month. I'm too impatient? |

You're not the only one o.j.
I was hoping to get more info on EAPI-2.
Several ebuilds will only emerge with portage-2.2.

I think it hasn't gotten around that there is not a weekly newsletter anymore.

The GMN will not be published this month, as Anant (KillerX) has been busy travelling and Josh Saddler (nightmorph) had a hardware failure. Anant promised it for next week. Anyone willing to help is welcome, contact gmn-feedback@g.o and I am sure, someone will answer you. |

s/next week/next month.
As always, help is very welcome. As pointed out by V-Li, please email gmn-feedback. We primarily need help in consolidating articles and copy-editing. Thanks! _________________ Anant

I wouldn't do that. December's coming... How about the November's GMN? |

My news about my team Gentoo-Québec.org is on the frontpage for a long time.
We really need to update the site just to tell to the world that Gentoo is actually working on something. |

I agree.
Gentoo Monthly News being non-monthly doesn't have anything technically to do with development status, but it looks awfully bad - just like canceling 2008.1 looked bad, but was probably the right decision. _________________ /* Nobody will ever see this message */

Again:
Why not make a small announcement on the front page that states that there will be no GMN this month?? Why is it so hard to publish Gentoo related new on Gentoo front page?? I'll never understand this. It takes 2minutes to publish: "There will be no GMN this month due to unexpected delays. The next GMN will be published in December.". Or whatever.
Damnit, I start to believe that Gentoo is actually going down... _________________ Paludis, the way packages are meant to be managed. |

Perhaps we should just can the newsletter altogether? It doesn't seem like anyone is really concerned about it, at least from the people that should be concerned. The community gave the go-ahead for monthly instead of weekly to avoid the "we are too busy" excuses, and now that monthly is the expected interval, that's being slacked on too (this was the reason I felt GWN was worth keeping weekly).
Oh well, I guess the news page is now nothing more than a stale placeholder anymore. Why not just send the main page on gentoo.org to the forums and let the community do what the Gentoo board refuses to do, support the community? It's obvious they either lack the desire or ability to maintain things the way they need to be maintained, so at least this way anyone stumbling onto the site will know where to get help or useful information from. |

When you don't know what you're talking about, it's better to close your mouth. Please don't spread FUD or sling mud against the developers. |
I could accept that excuse if Gentoo was run by one person or was a start up distro that didn't have a community. But this is Gentoo we're talking about. If one person kills the monthly newsletter for two months in a row, then the system is broken. Sorry if my addressing of the obvious hurt your feelings, but the community at large deserves a bit more than it's received recently. The portage conflict with the e2fsprogs package under stable is just one example of the distro itself, the newsletters slipping (again) is another. At the very least, someone could post that on the front page, but instead, users have to dig through mailing lists and forums to see why things that should be getting done, aren't getting done.
Sorry if you don't think it's important, but if you'd read around online, you'll see my opinions are not 'crap', nor are they exclusive to myself. |

tsuehpsyde: You're doing nothing but restating the problem. Gentoo developers KNOW there's a manpower problem. They KNOW that not enough people are volunteering to do development work, maintain the newsletter, etc.
What are YOU doing to fix this? YOU are part of this community.
Gentoo isn't Ubuntu, it isn't Redhat. It doesn't have paid developers. EVERYONE is a volunteer. Gentoo relies on community volunteers. |

Hi, I would like to know if non-dev can help the Gentoo project ? I know that the package is the main job for the Gentoo dev, but maybe the other stuff could be maintain by volunteers and by definition by non official dev. |
