xsane/epson perfection 2400 is freezing up all the time!

Does anyone have an Epson Perfection 2400? Everytime I try to use XSANE, it freezes half way, or even in the beginning of a scan, and requires me to actually push the reset button on the computer to kill the process. Also, unless I unplug the device and plug it in again after the computer is booted up, XSANE does not detect the device properly, saying [epson] ident failed. I tried disabling hotplug and doing it manually, but still, I get all the same problems. I've tried two different kernels already. I don't think it has anything to do with that. The device hangs as well when the scan freezes by the way. Any ideas? I'm thinking about returning the 2400 and trying a 2200 instead, just in case. Does anyone know what's going on?
