My system, which is in my signature. It was overclocked to 3Ghz, but it isn't now because it really doesn't need to be.
I don't know how long it takes to emerge -e world, but I emerged about 500 packages overnight with time to spare (when I first installed xorg-x11, nvidia-drivers, gnome, and some other things) |

Gentoo is running on a virtual machine inside Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 - great for testing |
How do you like the xSeries 445? I have an opportunity to get one with all eight CPUs (2.7 GHz Xeon MP with 2 MB L3) for pretty cheap and was wondering if I should do that or not. Mostly I want to know if it is unbearably noisy or not since I don't have a proper rack for it- it will sit on a very sturdy bench next to my desk. _________________ Unix is user friendly- it is just picky who its friends are. |

C2D E8500 E0 @ 4GHz
Asus P5Q Pro
2x2GB DDR2 1066 OCZ Reaper HPC
500 GB WD Caviar
512MB HIS HD4850 Turbo IceQ4 (650/1000)
Edimax EW-7128G
550w Seasonic S12 EnergySaver SS-550HT
Had some issues with getting my HD4850 to play well with X and Fglrx a couple of months ago, but I totally wiped and reinstalled Gentoo the other day and now it's working with no problems. Most of the games I've tried playing so far have comparible performance to Windows. _________________ E8500 E0 3.16GHz @ 4.0GHz (445x9.0 @ 1.325v) | Asus P5Q Pro | 2x2GB OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2 1066 | WD 500GB | HIS HD 4850 Turbo IceQ4 (650/1000) | Antec 300 | SeaSonic SS-550HT 550w | LITE-ON DVD Burner | Tuniq Tower 120 |

Install I am about to do:
Compaq Alphaserver DS20L
2x Alpha EV68AL processors (833MHz)
2gb ECC ram
probably going to install sans hard drive - *maybe* a small one.
each of the two processors supposedly has more floating-point speed than the newest i7's.
oh yeah, and it fit in a 1U box (I'm modding the fans, so it doesn't anymore, but it's quieter than 51db ) _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

I am waiting for someone to install Gentoo on the microcontroller of a large tractor or other piece of heavy earth-moving equipment, for a hands-down win at this "Most powerful machine..." thread.

you have wayy too much swap - the general rule nowadays is to not go over 512MB... of course, if you have that much ram, why do you need swap anyway? _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA
