pull the latest ebuilds from the gnome repo in layman
then unmask all the packages you need, I like autounmask (in portage)
Code: |
autounmask gnome-base/gnome-2.24.0
|
then
Code: |
emerge =gnome-base/gnome-2.24.0
|

strange...the overlay gnome shows up in my layman -L
Code: |
slacktop ~ # layman -L | grep gnome
* gnome [Git ] (source: git://git.overlays.gentoo....)
slacktop ~ #
|
maybe you need to upgrade your layman? or make sure it is built with GIT support?
also verify that your /etc/layman/layman.cfg
contains this URL

figo,
Do a "layman -L" first, that will pull down the overlay list. |

it is known that autounmask does not work very well.
i think you should probably read in the docs about masked packages...
i hope you realize that since gnome-2.24.0 is from an overlay and is masked, it means that it`s unstable and almost everyday the gnome herd (we luv you ) does a great amount of work, thus changes happen...
i would recommend you to wait a bit longer to have gnome-2.24.0 merged to the portage tree
just a thought |

The problem is that autounmask does not see your portage overlay.
Yours:
Code: |
localhost figo # autounmask gnome-base/gnome-2.24.0
autounmask version 0.21 (using PortageXS-0.02.07 and portage-2.1.4.4)
Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline at /usr/bin/autounmask line 304.
Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline at /usr/bin/autounmask line 307.
Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline at /usr/bin/autounmask line 304.
Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline at /usr/bin/autounmask line 307.
* Using repository: /usr/portage
|
Mine:
Code: |
slacker ~ # autounmask =gnome-base/gnome-2.24.0
autounmask version 0.21 (using PortageXS-0.02.07 and portage-2.2_rc1)
* Using repositories:
/usr/portage
/usr/portage/local/layman/sunrise
/usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage
/usr/portage/local/layman/sabayon
/usr/portage/local/layman/gnome
/usr/local/portage
|
I am not sure why you are having issues with autounmask (which i have only ever had problems using it with sets)
take a look at this link
http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Overlays
to verify that layman is set up correctly.
you can also unmask the packages manually.
Code: |
emerge =gnome-base/gnome-2.24.0 -pv
|
then echo the packages that show up as masked into
Code: |
/etc/portage/package.keywords
|
or
Code: |
/etc/portage/package.unmask
|
depending on how they are masked. _________________ Ubuntu -- An african word meaning 'Gentoo is too hard for me' |
