i definitely like eclipse much more. the interface is more intuitive and much faster than netbeans' ui, it's open source, and well i just like it. but this is a personal preference, so you should install both and just test them and decide which one _you_ like better.

It also depends on what you want/need in an IDE. For example, Netbeans has a decent SWING/GUI build environment, and Eclipse does not (although I hear that some are being written -- early stages).

Thankfully they're both Open Source and also free. Therefore, you can try them both, use them both, make additions, etc. It's a beautiful thing! :-)

I installed netbeans just because of the gui-designer, but found that I didn't like the code it produced, so I fell back to writing the gui-code manually. I still have 'em both installed but I definitely like Eclipse better because of the great reengineering functions and the clean interface.
