I'm using the gentoo-sources kernel, and the kernel will compile just fine until it gets to the "modules_install" section, and it dumps me back to the cli when it reaches the the "pcmcia" directory with an error. The error reads like make can't find the pcmcia directory, but it is there....It does this every time, and its wierd because I don't have pcmcia even enabled (I'm building this on a desktop). I tried enabling pcmcia and that didn't help at all so I don't have a clue what else to do

This seems like there was some kind of interruption or something that happened when you were downloading the kernel sources. I would unmerge the current kernel sources and then re-emerge them. If that doesn't work, I would try the vanilla sources to make sure that it wasn't just the gentoo sources that are giving you problems.

I hadn't thought of that, but sometimes weird things happen. Just check out this thread. I would say try it again. If it works, then you are good to go. If not then you have a repeatable problem that can be described in a bug report or possibly fixed here on the forums. ;)
