I want my KDE 4.2 in german language... but I can only find kde-4 and kde-svn slotted packages for kde-l10n.
Is this a bug or something or are there just no ebuilds for them?

Any way to change the size/color of the Application Launcher in kde-4.1.66? It got shorter so that now I only see 4 favorites and now is fixed at black like the taskbar. :(

Thanks. :oops: To my defense no gripper was drawn like in kde-4.1. But I guess other windows operate this way also..

And that also fixed a color bug for me. For some reason the selected item was getting a gray highlight that was drawn improperly (it covered part of the item above) and the scroll bar also had drawing problems.

I do have the same problem yet haven't any solution. Recompiling phonon, phonon-xine and the upgrade to qt-4.4.2 didn't help. I think we'll have to wait for kde-4.1.67...

EDIT: Solution found! :D

I do have linking problems too with amarok-1.90, k3b, ktorrent,...

However try amarok-1.9999, it builds fine. ;)

Hi,

I got a problem installing KDE-4.1. I completely followed this guide:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_KDE4

and on

Quote:
emerge -vat kde-meta:4.1

I get:

Quote:
hese are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies \
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "kde-base/kde-meta:4.1".

A little help? No idea where to go from there...

Things have changed recently:

kdesvn-portage has dumped all 4.1 ebuilds to concentrate exclusively on the 4.2 branch
KDE-4.1 branch remains in official kde-testing

After some hassle amarok-1.9999 even works, kind of. I'm missing smart playlists though. :(

So what version of KDE should I use? 4.1 or 4.2?

I installed the kde-testing overlay and got

Quote:
* Overlay eclasses override eclasses from PORTDIR:
*
* '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-base.eclass'
* '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-functions.eclass'
* '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-meta.eclass'
*
* It is best to avoid overridding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
* trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
* the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
* are advised to run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge
* --sync`. Set PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you
* would like to disable this warning.

on

Quote:
emerge -p kde-meta:4.1

And after this again the message, that the ebuild is not in portage.

greetings,

bienchen

That's because there is no such slot (4.1) in kde-testing. Instead, you might want to use (4):

Code:
emerge -p kde-meta:4

So which version should you use?
4.1 - hassle-free stable branch which is officially being worked on (and supported as soon as it hits portage)
4.2 - development branch with tagged 'stable' versions from SVN. Expect major KDE updates about once a week when a new minor version gets tagged. Most of the time those should emerge fine, but there may be regressions once in a while.

And what should I do on the eclass-override?

Trying to get 4.1 working, then...

Is it possible, that there are many dependencies not unmask for KDE 4.1 from the kde-testing overlay?

Like x11-libs/qt-svg:4, for an example?

qt-4.4* is in official portage, yet masked. Yes, you have to do some things by hand. ;)

I have reworked the KDE4 gentoo-wiki to make the differences between kde-testing and kdesvn-portage visible. It might be of help for you: http://gentoo-wiki.com/KDE4

EDIT: I've switched over to kde-testing myself - it works great.

Seems like anonsvn.kde.org is down, i get a connection error... hope it`s back soon, because besides phonon everything is workin well (using 4.1.64).

To circumvent the problems with anonsvn.kde.org, you have to add the line

Quote:

138.246.255.180 anonsvn.kde.org

in /etc/hosts.

I followed the new KDE4 instructions on gentoo-wiki to install kde4 and I get the below. The first time I ran in, it installed 11 packages:

  • kde-base/automoc-0.9.84
  • media-sound/phonon-4.2.0-r1
  • app-office/akonadi-server-1.0.0
  • dev-libs/soprano-2.1
  • kde-base/kdelibs-4.1.1-r2
  • kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.1.1
  • app-misc/strigi-0.5.11
  • kde-base/libkworkspace-4.1.1
  • kde-base/libtaskmanager-4.1.1
  • kde-base/libplasma-4.1.1
  • kde-base/kate-4.1.1

This list is obviously a small subset of the kde4 packages - now when I run emerge -vat @kde-4x, I get this:
Code:

 * Overlay eclasses override eclasses from PORTDIR:
 *
 *   '/usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-base.eclass'
 *   '/usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-functions.eclass'
 *   '/usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing/eclass/kde4-meta.eclass'
 *
 * It is best to avoid overridding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
 * trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
 * the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
 * are advised to add FEATURES="metadata-transfer" to /etc/make.conf and to
 * run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge --sync`. Set
 * PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you would like to
 * disable this warning.

/usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing/sets/kde-4x: Validation failed at line: 14, data @kdeutils-4

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] kde-base/kate-4.1.1  USE="plasma -debug -htmlhandbook -kdeprefix" 0 kB [1]

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
Portage tree and overlays:
 [0] /usr/portage
 [1] /usr/local/portage/layman/kde-testing

Any ideas on what this could be?

@PaulSorensen: It seems you already had some kde-4.1 packages installed? Did you switch from kdesvn-portage?

Hi genstorm - yes I did, do you think that is causing the problem? I attempted to clean out any of the kdesvn packages that I could find.

I don't know how those ebuilds work together - someone here posted an alpha guide howto move from kdesvn-portage to kde-testing, but it didn't look too easy. Have you been able to login into a kde4 session without problems?

I made the switch by unmerging all "4.1" slotted packages and finally emerging kdebase-meta:4. Didn't use the set but I get the same validation warnings - maybe that's broken for now.

This should do the trick if you want a clean kde-testing 4.1 environment:
Code:
equery list kde-base/ | grep "(4.1)" | xargs emerge -Cp
