http://www.gentoo-users.org is a google maps mashup application where Gentoo users can create a profile with their location and see where other Gentoo users are located. Hopefully we can create communities and it can facilitate meet-ups and whatnot.

It is created using GeoDjango (Django and contrib.gis ).

I hope you find it usefull.

Please give me your comments and suggestions. (and bug reports if any!)

Ps. hopefully its OK to advertise this here. Its completely free, there are no ads etc. Its a community site by a Gentoo user for other Gentoo users)
Also, the source code for the site is available at http://code.google.com/p/genmap/ Its messy. sorry.

Hi. I'm assuming you registered using 'padoor' as your username.
I can see you just fine at http://gentoo-users.org/user/padoor/

I think you may be using Konqueror, which is not working properly right now due to Javascript issues. I also have not tested Chrome (does not run on linux yet).

I tried to sign up but it won't accept my password.
Keeps coming back w/o any message but with the password lines empty.
Gerard.

Hi Gerard.
I'm not exactly sure what you are experiencing. I'm testing the sign-up page and when username/password is invalid, it displays the error properly. I tested this with Opera/Firefox/Chrome/IE/Konqueror.

If you have forgotten your password, i just added a password reset mechanism (on /login/ pages just click "i forgot my password" ) enter your email (the same one you registered with) and you'll be able to choose a new password.

Ps. the error i said i fixed previously was on login page, not sign up.

the idea is nice, but without the ability to register/login over https the whole thing is very insecure.
if you provide encryption, i will join too.

Hi menace,
Apparently you cannot sign up with a name with spaces.
I first tried with the same name I use here.
I now signed up with just "gerard" and that worked.
Gerard.

Kollin,

https connections are now available on that host, but that does not really mean that everything is "Done".
or did you not refer to my post?
first of all i just get the answer "It works" from the server when connecting via https.
and the apache https test certificate is not really suitable for real use.
create a cert yourself with at least the right CN (common name) and configure apache to point to the same webroot with http and https.

Hi alex.blackbit,
I'm responsible for gentoo-users.org.
Thanx for the suggestion.
SSL does not work right now and the cert you see if you access https: is just the apache test cert.

I'll provide a self-signed cert as soon as i can, but its not as simple as creating a new certificate (Due to the particular setup. I looked into it today).

I'll do it, just not right now.

SSL is very easy in Django. If you have not fully implemented it, just poke me and I will provide some code from my current project at work.
