Rather than go by the alt install methods given by Gentoo, would I be able to:
take my 2 gig hard drive out of my pentium 166 and put it in my current gentoo box and then boot off of the gentoo cd (cause my p166 can't boot off of cd) and install gentoo that way, just making sure that I set make.conf to do i386 style? And then put the HD back into my P166? Would I need to make the 2 giger be the same name in both systems, such as hda or could i install with it being hdb in my current gentoo box and still make it bootable on the p166 as hda???
Just curious.
My gentoo box is Athlon 1600+ so install would take much less time.
Thanks,

As long as you set the correct options in make.conf (march, etc.) then this should work just fine. For safety sake, I'd try and keep the hda/hdb the same on each computer, but it *should* be as simple as changing your /etc/fstab and grub menu.lst files if you don't.
If you go this route, please post your results here so the rest of us know how it went.

well as soon as my classes are over, I am going to try to get gentoo onto my p166 box either with floppies and ftp or with my new fangled idea .
Seeing as today, wednesday EST, 12:02am as writing this is here, and today is my last day of classes, I will hopefully have an update for ya by the end of the weekend.
