I tried to burn a cd. But k3b doesn't see the empty disc. I also tried to mount a cdrom which I know is burned. Here I get the following errors:

I don't see any error in dmesg.
What is the problem?

Suposing it worked before, could it be that your drive just broke? Perhaps the plug fell out of the socket? That'd explain why /dev/cdrom doesn't exist.

I had a problem before. It was repaired, worked for a week/two and now it doesn't anymore. I pulled out the cdrom 2 weeks ago. Someone rubbed the contacts with pencil rubber and it worked. Before that incident, it worked. It's a relatively new dvdrom. ~1 year. optiarc
Can you tell me what kind of plug are you talking about? A picture would be nice. in the last 2 days I heard noises from the cdrom, even though no cd/dvd was inside. |

Uh... sorry, forgot about this thread.
I mean the plug (actually any plug) that connects your CD-Rom drive to your motherboard. It apparently isn't the power line else you wouldn't be able to open your drive.
So if it is a SATA, maybe the the SATA cable fell of. Mine are a bit loose and one fell off of my HDD once.
