Hi,

i have problems emerging e2fsprogs. Probably one of other packages on the system is too old. Please help me find a workaround.
Code:

       CC tst_uuid.o
        LD tst_uuid
        LD uuid_time
../../lib/libuuid.so: undefined reference to `___tls_get_addr'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Maybe you should try
Code:

emerge -uDav e2fsprogs

to see what dependencies portage wants to update.

It want's to upgrade most of the packages on the system, but i don't think it's necessary to do so. If some of those would be _required_, the ebuild would add them as dependencies while emerging e2fsprogs.

If I take a closer look at:
Code:
../../lib/libuuid.so: undefined reference to `___tls_get_addr'

It seems like it wants to use something with TLS?

Yes. TLS here means Thread-local storage, not Transport Layer Security.

You should update "sys-libs/glibc" and "sys-devel/gcc".

I think I already tried upgrading glibc on this machine, but can't remember why it didn't work. I remember something about too old processor. I'll try it again when i have the time. It's a real pain in the ass to do such big upgrades on a such slow machine.

I have a question thu, after i upgrade glibc, do i need to recompile almost all of the applications on the system? Don't they all use glibc?

Code:

Your CHOST is too low. Some time back, glibc started requiring features that appeared in 486 CPUs, hence a CHOST if i486 or better is required. Warning: read Changing the CHOST variable in its entirety before you change anything. As noted in that link, changing the CHOST can have severe consequences if you do it incorrectly.

Your /proc/cpuinfo indicates you should have no problems from a hardware support perspective.

Hu,

you are absolutely correct. Now i remember. :-) I guess i'll just stick with unsecure e2fsprogs for now. :-)
