if you're running 1024x768 resolution then what's the output of this command?

# xdpyinfo | grep dots

mine is 25x25.

I'm getting "resolution: 75x75 dots per inch" whichever resolution I'm in.
I'm using 1600x1200 16-bit colour as my default, in case that's important.

damn!! mine is too small. any idea how to make 75x75? i edited my /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers with the following line:

:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 75

but that's not helping... is it because im not using xdm?

i also started X from command line by:

#/usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 75

but that's not starting my kde.. just bare X.

any idea how to change the dpi? maybe in XF86config?

Output of mine is 89x96, at 1280x1024.. I took a ruler to my monitor though, and filled out the following in /etc/X11/XF86Config
Code:

Section "Monitor"
        DisplaySize  364        270
EndSection

which is the size of the display area in millimeters (364mmx270mm)

I don't have any problems with my display size, and xdpyinfo is returning 75x75 for me. After reading this thread, I decided to give the DisplaySize variable a try. Put in the physical dimensions of my monitor and restarted X. The new xdpinfo output was higher than 75x75 (something like 89x86). The problems is, in mozilla, the fonts were sooooo badly scaled that I had to go back immediately and comment out the DisplaySize line.
I have a 19" monitor running 1280x1024. I use xfs as a font server. Does anybody have any ideas how to solve this problem? (It is not actually a problem, I'm just curious)

Thanks,
Kavel

take the engineering approach... if it's not a problem don't fuck with it.

After reading this I added a displaysize entry but gave it my real numbers * 0.9 which gave me slightly larger fonts so I don't need to set the minimum font size on Mozilla anymore, all small fonts are readable, although I only had the problem with a couple websites. After giving it the bogus displaysize entry my dpi went to 86x86 now instead of the default 75x75.
