Is there a way to search for "portage 2.0.13" or something similar? I'm not having any luck. I think this would be a very handy ability (version searching).

Alas, the PHPbb FAQ says:
Quote:
numbers alone are not stored

I was hoping 2.0.13 (with dots) could be interpreted as a string as in "2.0.13". I did get some hits on 2 and 0 (without dot) even though it was entered with dots. Interesting.

Thanks.

Sorry, I'm currently living on a one-button-mouse laptop that is yet to get 3 button emulation, so copy-and-paste is harder than normal, so I was a bit terse before. Actually, I guess I can do it between Mozilla windows, so here's a bit more from the FAQ:
Quote:
By default words must contain at least three characters but no more than 25, they must be either alpha or combinations of alpha and numerals (numbers alone are not stored). In addition all non-alphanumeric characters are removed, eg. _, +, -, etc.

Which reads to me like '2.0.13' would become 2013, and not hit being all numbers. This does not explain to me why you are getting hits on 2, however, unless it's part of some compound search.

No problem at all. I should have assumed the FAQ had the info. I guess I was hoping there was a 'trick' or something ;)

Oddly enough, I think it actually becomes 2 0 13

Yes, I was searching for "portage 2.0.13" and in some results, where 2.0 existed the 2 and 0 would be highlighted but not the .
The rules you've mentioned don't seem to jive with that though. Very strange.

I think I can come up with a plausible (maybe not correct, but...) explanation for this. The indexing code is not storing the numbers, so you're just getting all the portage hits, while the 2 0 13 is getting thrown away by the search code. But the numbers do get passed to the viewtopic.php in the highlighting parameter, even though they weren't actually used in the search.
