OK, this is a stupid question, but I realized just now that I have BOTH linux-headers and mips-headers on my O2. I am having a problem getting the new PAM to work, and it was suggested that perhaps ld.so was a problem. This lead me to believe perhaps updating my glibc would be a good idea, which then lead me to want to get the most recent headers. That is when I discovered I have both (no idea what I did to f*** this up  ). From what I can tell with a few random choices, they probably overwrite each other:
Code:

# equery b /usr/include/linux/version.h
[ Searching for file(s) /usr/include/linux/version.h in *... ]
sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.24 (/usr/include/linux/version.h)
sys-kernel/mips-headers-2.6.16.16 (/usr/include/linux/version.h)

I don't know that I have to know why there are two sets of headers, but does one just pick which ever is newest if one wants the newest glibc then?

Thanks for any advice,
/iMike

Yeah, mips-headers is officially dead.

Unmerge it, then merge in linux-headers, and rebuild your glibc. Preferably afterwards, re-merge the world, but that may not be entirely necessary.

The duality your seeing is because the 2007.1-dev profile unlocks linux-headers, and masks mips-headers, whereas linux-headers was locked in all prior profiles.

2007.1-dev here: if i try to unmerge the mips-headers i simply destroy /lib/cpp ...
also i get this situation

[blocks B ] sys-kernel/linux-headers (is blocking sys-kernel/mips-headers-2.6.16.16, sys-kernel/mips-headers-2.6.14.4)
[blocks B ] sys-kernel/mips-headers (is blocking sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.25-r2)

how to fix this jam ?
